To ensure your Mircom MIX-2251AP Intelligent Photoelectric Smoke Sensor is functioning correctly, you can perform several tests as outlined in the instruction manual. First, a functional test can be conducted using a test magnet (P/N M02-04-01 or M02-09-00). Hold the magnet in the designated test area, and the sensor should trigger the alarm. Second, a smoke entry test can be performed using an aerosol generator like the Gemini 501. Set the generator to produce 4%/ft to 5%/ft obscuration, and apply the aerosol until the panel alarms. For the MIX-2251TAP and MIX-2251TMAP models, a direct heat method can also be used. Direct heat from a 1000-1500 watt hair dryer towards either thermistor from about 12 inches away. The detector will reset after it has cooled. Always follow the manual's testing procedures. If the sensor fails any test, clean it as directed in the manual and retest. If the issue persists, the sensor might need replacing.
