The ETC installation position is generally in the upper middle part of the front windshield horizontally, while for large vehicles such as trucks and buses, it is installed in the lower middle part. The appropriate installation position should be no lower than 1.2 meters and no higher than 2.5 meters, with an installation angle between 30 to 90 degrees. For vehicles with anti-explosion film or those that have it installed later, it may affect the signal transmission of the microwave communication link, and thus should be installed in the microwave sunroof strip. ETC stands for Electronic-Toll-Collection, meaning electronic toll collection system. To apply, you need to provide the original and photocopies of the vehicle owner's valid ID card and driving license. If the application is not done by the owner, the agent's valid ID card is also required. The photocopy of the driving license should include the page with the most recent annual inspection stamp. A bank card for deducting highway tolls is also needed, and the vehicle must be registered under an individual aged between 18 and 60. For company vehicles, the required documents are: An introduction letter from the vehicle owner (with official seal); Copy of the organization code certificate or business license (with official seal); Original ID card of the agent; Original driving license of the vehicle; The vehicle that needs to apply for ETC. Here are some precautions for installing ETC: Do not block the view, it is best to install it behind the rearview mirror: Many car models have a large rearward angle of the windshield, which reduces the driver's field of vision. If this is not considered during ETC installation, it may increase the driver's blind spots. Install it behind the rearview mirror on the right side to avoid blocking the view. Do not affect charging: The ETC electronic tag consumes power but generally does not need to be charged or have its replaced because it has a solar panel on the back that can charge itself. Therefore, during installation, avoid the black areas on the windshield and do not install it where it may block the solar panel. Once installed, do not remove it casually: The button in the middle of the adhesive is an anti-removal rod connected to a switch. After the electronic tag is installed, the windshield will press the anti-removal rod in. If it is removed casually, the anti-removal rod will pop out and trigger the switch, locking the electronic tag and making it unusable. You will then need to go to an ETC service point to unlock it. This is designed to prevent multiple vehicles from sharing one device. When using ETC, note: The ETC transaction sensing range is 8 meters. To prevent the ETC device of the vehicle in front from malfunctioning, keep a distance of more than 10 meters from the vehicle in front to avoid automatic sensing and paying for the vehicle in front. The recognition speed for ETC lanes is 20 kilometers per hour. If the speed is too fast, the vehicle device information cannot be read, leading to payment failure. When using a debit card bound to ETC, insufficient balance will also cause payment failure.

When installing the ETC device, I prefer the spot right behind the rearview mirror on the windshield, which is also a common choice among many car owners. This area is crucial—you must avoid the tinted film sections with black dots, as they can interfere with signal reception. Before installation, remember to thoroughly clean the glass with alcohol wipes, peel off the protective film from the adhesive back of the device, and press firmly for 30 seconds to secure it. Initially, I installed mine too close to the edge, and it failed to read at the toll gate until I repositioned it behind the rearview mirror, where it worked much more reliably. The solar panel on the bottom of the device must face outward without any obstructions—a detail that’s often overlooked. Once installed, avoid tampering with or removing the device, as triggering the anti-tamper button will require reactivation, which is a hassle.

I recommend mounting the ETC device in the center of the upper edge of the windshield, approximately 5 centimeters behind the rearview mirror. This position won't obstruct the driver's view and falls within the blind spot area of the interior rearview mirror. When installing, be sure to avoid the small black dot areas on the windshield. Last time I placed it near those dots, and it fell off after just two days of sun exposure. Also, pay attention to the device's solar panel—it must face outward and avoid the wiper blade sweep area. For vehicles with dark tinted heat-insulating films, it's best to have the ETC service center staff create a dedicated film-free installation zone to ensure unimpeded signal transmission.

The optimal mounting position is right at the top center of the windshield. This location won't obstruct your view and ensures sensitive signal reception when passing through ETC lanes on highways. I've personally seen people casually place the device on the dashboard for convenience, only to experience either signal failure or have it fall off when going over speed bumps. The installation process is simple: first thoroughly clean the glass, peel off the adhesive backing, then align and firmly press it into position. Remember to mount the device vertically with the solar panel facing outward. Avoid washing the car for the first three days after installation to allow the adhesive to fully bond.

After studying dozens of vehicles, I've found that installing the ETC device at the upper corner of the windshield on the passenger side is the most scientific approach. This spot is both within the blind spot area and doesn't interfere with traffic signals. When installing, remember to completely avoid the black enamel area at the edge of the windshield, as it can cause the adhesive to detach. Some beginners install the device horizontally, which blocks the solar panel from charging. My experience shows that leaving a two-finger width between the device's base and the glass edge is ideal. For panoramic sunroof models, it's best to choose a position slightly to the right of the glass centerline, avoiding the front defroster wire area.

The actual installation position should be on the upper middle-right area of the windshield, about two fingers' distance directly behind the rearview mirror. This spot ensures good signal reception without being conspicuous. I particularly want to remind new car owners: never install it on the black dotted area of the front windshield for aesthetic reasons, as this will cause the device's solar charging to fail. During installation, after cleaning the glass with a wet cloth, completely remove the protective paper from the device's adhesive backing and press firmly until the adhesive turns white to ensure a secure fit. After installation, remember to test its sensitivity on the highway, and if you notice slow recognition, adjust the position as soon as possible.
