The LED will flash in a pattern of four times with pauses. You can cycle through the hardness levels by briefly pressing the DECALC/HARDNESS button, which will change the display to flash one, two, or three times, with pauses between each. Once you've selected your preferred water hardness level, save the setting by holding the DECALC/HARDNESS button again for over two seconds. If you have the Melitta AromaElegance Therm DeLuxe model, hold the DECALC/HARDNESS button and use the M button to adjust the water hardness level; the display will show your current selection.
