You'll know there's a problem if you hear a deep, heavy knocking or rumbling from the engine, especially when you accelerate. Your oil pressure gauge will also likely drop into the red. At that point, shut the engine off immediately and call a tow truck. Driving with a failing crankshaft will destroy the entire engine.
