Unless you're in an extreme survival situation where you need heat to avoid freezing, it's hard to justify. The risks far outweigh any perceived benefit. Yes, your battery won't die, but you're actively wearing out the engine to save the battery—a very lopsided deal. The only time this might be considered is for emergency service vehicles that need to power equipment, and even they have systems to manage the load and exhaust safely. For a personal car, just don't.
