
Due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the car, the window glass is colder from contact with the outside, causing water vapor inside the car to condense on the glass and form fog. Methods to remove fog are as follows: Opening windows for air circulation: If the fog is not heavy, you can open a small gap in the windows on both sides. This allows the air inside the car to circulate, gradually equalizing the temperature inside and outside the car, which will disperse the fog. Using air conditioning to remove fog: Increase the fan speed appropriately and turn on the cooling switch. The cold air will blow onto the glass, quickly and visibly dispersing the fog. Alternatively, you can also use warm air to remove fog. Glass defogger: Spraying this defogger on the car's windshield or applying it with a towel onto the car glass is also effective. Generally, one application of the defogger can prevent fog formation for about half a month.

In winter, I often encounter sudden fogging on the windshield while driving, which is particularly dangerous. The principle is the same as glasses fogging up—it's caused by a large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the car combined with high humidity. A mechanic suggested applying undiluted dish soap all over the front windshield and then polishing it with a dry cloth. This creates a hydrophilic film that spreads out the fog instead of forming droplets. The anti-fog sprays sold on the market today work on the same principle. Be careful not to use soapy water, as its alkaline nature can damage the glass. Before getting into the car on rainy days, open the windows to ventilate and keep the temperature difference between inside and outside within 5°C. Once, I saw someone using a potato to wipe the glass for defogging—tried it myself and surprisingly, it worked.

Window fogging is fundamentally an issue with the humidity control of the air conditioning system. I used to find defogging ineffective when driving older cars, but it improved after replacing the refrigerant. Proper dehumidification requires the AC evaporator to be below the dew point temperature, but aging cars with insufficient cooling will defog slowly. I regularly clean the AC filter and alternate between cold and warm air to blow the windshield. Applying a nano anti-fog film to the front windshield has shown significant results, and it's been effective for five years. Cars with heated rearview mirrors usually have adequate windshield heating functions. If all else fails, turning on the AC + external circulation is the most reliable solution.

Commuting folks all know how annoying morning fog can be. Experiments show that fog forms most easily at 20°C with 70% humidity. I've measured with a thermometer - when in-car humidity exceeds 55%, it's time to be alert. Now I've developed a routine: press the MAX defog button immediately upon starting, set temperature to 21°C with maximum fan speed. For side mirror fog, rub soap vertically in streaks - water droplets will flow along them. Keep a moisture absorber on the dashboard and bamboo charcoal bags in door pockets.
