
Shock absorber damage manifests as follows: 1. Oil leakage. Inspect the shock absorber through the wheel arch using a flashlight. When oil leakage is observed on the exterior of the shock absorber, it indicates damage. 2. Loose chassis. When driving on bumpy roads, if the vehicle exhibits excessive bouncing or unstable swaying, it typically signals shock absorber issues. 3. Abnormal noises. If the shock absorber produces unusual sounds while driving on rough terrain, it's highly likely damaged. 4. Uneven tire wear. Unstable wheel vibration during driving causes phenomena like wheel tilting, resulting in severe wear on the tire's ground-contact area while unaffected areas remain intact. Over time, this leads to uneven wear patterns, causing unstable vehicle handling and increased discomfort from bumps.

When driving, the car feels extremely bumpy, especially when going over speed bumps or rough roads. The body keeps bouncing up and down several times before settling, like being on a boat. It used to stabilize immediately. The body roll during turns is very noticeable; at higher speeds, the car feels like it's being thrown outward, making sharp turns feel unsafe. The nose dive during braking is also severe—when stopping, the front end sinks significantly, and the rear wheels feel like they're lifting. Sometimes, there's a creaking sound when going over bumps, and upon closer inspection, the shock absorbers are leaking oil, as if splashed with grease. Faulty shock absorbers are the scariest issue on highways. The car sways left and right like a roly-poly toy when cornering, and it feels like losing grip at slightly higher speeds. Normal driving becomes extremely bumpy - on undulating roads, the car bounces up and down like a boat, even causing tires to lift off the ground. Last time mine leaked, sludge completely encased the shock into a black rod, indicating all hydraulic fluid had drained. The tires also developed feathering wear, with tread edges looking knife-trimmed. The mechanic warned this significantly increases hydroplaning risk in rain and makes emergency lane changes more likely to cause loss of control. After replacement, the car's grip noticeably improved - now speed bumps don't cause dizzying vibrations anymore.
