how to know if someone put an airtag on your car

The most reliable way to know if an unknown AirTag is tracking your car is through your smartphone. Both iPhone and Android users will receive an automatic alert if an AirTag not registered to them is seen moving with them over time. For iPhone users (iOS 14.5 or later), this is a built-in feature. Android users can download Apple's "Tracker Detect" app from the Google Play Store to scan for nearby AirTags.

If you receive an alert or are suspicious, you can manually scan for an AirTag. An AirTag that is separated from its owner for a period of time will also play a sound to alert those nearby. You can trigger this sound manually using an NFC-capable smartphone (both iPhone and Android) by tapping the white side of the suspected AirTag. Your phone will then open a webpage that shows the AirTag's serial number and whether it's marked as lost.

Physically inspecting your car is also crucial. Common hiding spots include:

  • Inside the vehicle: The glove compartment, center console, under seats, and map pockets.
  • Exterior: Inside the gas cap door, within wheel wells, tucked behind license plates, or attached via a magnetic mount to the undercarriage.

If you find an AirTag, you can disable it by pressing down on the polished stainless steel battery cover, twisting counterclockwise, and removing the battery. You should also report the incident to local law enforcement, as this can be a form of stalking.

Detection MethodHow It WorksKey Limitation
Automatic Smartphone AlertiPhone/Android detects an AirTag not associated with your account moving with you.Requires the AirTag to be away from its owner for a period of time (usually 15 mins to 24 hrs).
Manual Bluetooth ScanUse apps like "Tracker Detect" (Android) to scan for nearby Find My network accessories.Requires proactive scanning; AirTags may not always be broadcasting a signal.
Play SoundTrigger a sound from the AirTag via the Find My app or by tapping it with an NFC-enabled phone.Sound can be muffled if hidden deep within the car; may not work if the owner is nearby.
Physical InspectionManually check common hiding spots inside and outside the vehicle.Time-consuming and requires knowing where to look; a well-hidden tag can be missed.

Check your phone first. If you have an iPhone, you should get a notification saying "AirTag Found Moving With You." It'll even give you a map of where it's been. If you're on Android, grab the "Tracker Detect" app from the Play Store and run a scan. Don't ignore those alerts. I did, and it turned out a friend was playing a prank. It's not always something sinister, but you gotta check.

As someone who’s always tinkering with tech, I’d suggest a two-pronged approach. First, use technology to your advantage: run a Bluetooth scanner app on your phone to look for devices named "AirTag." Second, get hands-on. AirTags have a speaker. If you suspect one is hidden on your car, you can often force it to make a sound using an app, which makes it much easier to locate than a visual search alone. This combo of a digital and physical sweep is your best bet.

My advice is to be proactive. Make a habit of quickly checking the usual spots once in a while, especially before a long drive. Look inside the glove box, under the seats, and even give your wheel wells a glance. If you're really concerned, consider a radio frequency (RF) detector. These devices can pick up signals from various tracking devices, including some AirTag signals, giving you an extra layer of security beyond just relying on your smartphone's notifications.

This happened to a neighbor, and it was scary. The key is to stay calm but act quickly. Start with a thorough search of your car, inside and out. If you find one, don't just throw it away. Law enforcement told us to document it—take pictures and note the time. Then, you can disable it by removing the battery. Reporting it creates a paper trail, which is important. It’s an invasion of privacy, and taking these steps helps protect you and could help others.

How to Fix a Malfunctioning Car Navigation Touchscreen?

Restart the navigation system or restore factory settings. The restart button is a very small built-in button located on the back or side of the device, and all GPS navigation devices have this button. Below are the reasons for navigation screen malfunction: 1. Static electricity: Although the surface glass of the navigation touchscreen is treated to resist static electricity, it is still susceptible to static, especially conductive media like oil and sweat from the driver's hands. 2. High temperature: The navigation touchscreen is sensitive to high temperatures. If the car interior reaches around 40°C, it can cause the capacitive screen to drift, so try to avoid parking the car under direct sunlight. 3. Magnetic fields: Magnetic fields inside the car, even a small magnet, can temporarily disable the touchscreen.
