
When installing the carburetor, first pass the throttle cable through the carburetor's upper cover, then slide the spring over the throttle cable, and extend the throttle cable through the throttle valve hole. Ensure that the small beveled side of the throttle valve faces the idle screw. After tightening the cover, you can observe that the throttle valve has settled to the bottom.

















I've repaired quite a few motorcycles, and installing the needle requires extra caution with its position. First, snap the tail of the needle into the plunger groove, aligning the small bump with the throttle cable notch—if it's misaligned, the fuel supply won't be accurate. The needle tip must be inserted vertically into the center of the main jet; even a slight tilt could scratch the jet wall. After installation, don't rush to tighten—gently push and pull the throttle cable to check if the plunger moves smoothly up and down. If it sticks, the needle is definitely misaligned. Remember to clip the retaining ring into the topmost groove—recently, someone installed it in the second groove, causing an overly rich mixture and the bike to sputter black smoke. Once installed, it's best to adjust the fuel level by using a clear against the float chamber to measure the fuel height.

To install the needle valve yourself, you'll need small tweezers and flat-nose pliers. First, pull out the plunger and make sure to hold down the spring to prevent it from flying off. The locating tab at the tail of the needle valve must be inserted into the plunger's sliding groove until you hear a click, indicating it's properly seated. The adjustment ring grooves in the middle of the main needle valve are particularly critical—for normal road conditions, set it to the third groove; for more power, adjust it one groove lower. When reassembling, ensure the end of the spring aligns with the recess in the carburetor body. Last time I didn't align it properly, which caused slow throttle return. Finally, tighten the plunger cover screws diagonally to avoid warping the cover, which could lead to air leaks. Keep your hands steady throughout the process—if the needle valve gets bent from a drop, it's basically ruined.

Don't think installing a needle valve is as simple as plugging it in. The inner wall of the plunger barrel has an oil film—clean it thoroughly with carburetor cleaner before installation, as residual oil can jam the plunger. When inserting the needle into the main jet, gently twist it into place while holding the tip; forcing it can damage the brass jet. The most troublesome part is synchronizing the float chamber fuel level. After installation, you must repeatedly adjust the float needle valve position—too high and the bike guzzles fuel, too low and it starves for fuel. Last week, while helping a neighbor fix their bike, the needle clip wasn't secured properly, causing the needle to shift upward on bumpy roads and completely mess up the air-fuel mixture.

I've seen too many cases of the needle being installed backwards. Pay attention to the adjustment slot on the needle—it should face the air filter. Installing it backwards will mess up the fuel delivery curve. Don't forget to install the spring pressure plate washer, or the plunger will wear against the housing. Avoid using power tools when tightening the screws—the carburetor body is made of brittle zinc alloy. Most importantly, test after installation: the plunger must fully lift when the throttle is fully opened and immediately drop with a 'click' when released to pass. The most common mistake with older CG125 models is forgetting to install the plunger locating pin, causing the needle to rotate and jam.

To install the needle valve, first remove the air filter to expose the carburetor top cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver to slowly loosen the plunger cover, pressing the spring with your fingers to prevent it from popping out. When removing the needle, note its direction—the tapered tip must face downward toward the fuel nozzle. During reassembly, three key points are crucial: the plunger's guide pin must slot into the carburetor wall's groove; the needle's tail protrusion must align with the plunger's notch; and finally, the spring must be compressed squarely. Wrap the plunger cover tightly with PTFE tape to prevent air leaks. Once, I forgot to replace the plunger top O-ring, and rainwater entered the carburetor, causing the engine to stall immediately. After assembly, always test for smooth idle and transition conditions.
