The Envision requires 5.4L of engine oil. Engine oil, also known as motor oil or engine lubricant, is a substance enhanced with additives in base oil, primarily containing anti-wear additives, detergents, dispersants, and multi-grade viscosity index improvers. Engine oil is used for lubricating internal combustion engines. The Envision is a model under Shanghai General Motors, with body dimensions of 4686mm in length, 1839mm in width, and 1660mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2750mm. In terms of exterior design, the Envision features an intelligent drag-reducing grille, aluminum roof rails, newly designed chrome dual exhaust pipes, 19-inch multi-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, and multi-function exterior rearview mirrors.

For my 2018 Envision with the 1.5T engine, each oil change requires about 4.7 liters, but the exact amount depends on how thoroughly the old oil is drained. The mechanic first pours in 4 liters, starts the engine to circulate for a few minutes, then turns it off and waits ten minutes before checking the dipstick. They’ll top it up as needed, usually ending up between 4.5-4.8 liters. A reminder to fellow owners: use a full synthetic 5W-30 oil that meets GM’s dexos1 standard. If buying oil yourself, it’s safer to have 5 liters on hand. Always check the oil level when the engine is cold for the most accurate reading—or after letting it sit for ten minutes if the engine is warm. Never check it on a slope.

I just had my 2019 2.0T Envision serviced, and the 4S dealership used exactly 5.7 liters of Silver Mobil 1 oil. The technician mentioned that the LTG engine has a design capacity of 5.75 liters, but they usually leave a slight margin within the standard range during actual operation. The key is to ensure the oil pan is completely drained—using an oil extractor can remove about 200ml more than gravity draining. If the oil filter is replaced, an additional top-up is needed. They recommend checking the dipstick again after driving for two or three days post- for a more accurate reading.

The colleague's older model 2.0T Envision requires approximately 5.5 liters per actual measurement, mainly depending on the method. For DIY oil changes, it's safer to prepare 6 liters of oil. It is recommended to use ACDelco dexos1 certified 0W-20 full synthetic oil, as this specification offers better startup protection in cold regions. When changing the oil, remember to thoroughly drain the residual oil from the old oil filter, and apply a layer of new oil on the rubber ring before installing the new filter.

After confirmation by workers from multiple 4S stores: the 1.5T model requires approximately 4.6 liters, while the 2.0T model needs about 5.7 liters. Pay attention to the capacity range indicated in the user manual. For example, the 2022 model clearly states 5.7L (including the filter) on page 278 of the manual. In practice, the oil should be added in two stages: first pour in 90%, start the engine and let it run, then top up. A special reminder for hybrid version owners: the oil type and quantity differ from those of the fuel version.

Practical experience: For gravity oil changes, 1.5T engines only need 4.3-4.5 liters, but an oil extractor can remove up to 4.8 liters of old oil. It's recommended that car owners supervise the entire process, as many roadside shops cut corners by only adding 4 liters. Remember to check the specifications on the oil cap; newer engines require dexos1 Gen2 certification. The optimal oil level on the dipstick when the engine is cold is in the upper-middle range of the dotted area. It's normal for the oil level to be slightly high right after maintenance.
