Don't just sit there idling. You need to get the car out on the open road. A good 20-minute drive on the highway is what you're after. The engine needs to be spinning fast for the alternator to really pump energy back into the battery. Idling in your driveway barely does anything. If you can't take a long drive right away, at least make sure you take the scenic route home.
