The Haval H4 currently does not have four-wheel drive. This vehicle is a front-wheel-drive urban SUV. Some high-end urban SUVs are equipped with an all-wheel-drive system. Urban SUVs with an all-wheel-drive system mostly operate in front-wheel drive mode under normal conditions, with power distributed to the rear wheels only when the front wheels slip or in certain special road conditions. The Haval H4 is a compact SUV under the Haval brand, with body dimensions of 4410mm in length, 1845mm in width, and 1695mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2660mm. In terms of appearance, the Haval H4 features a dual-waistline design that is lower at the front and higher at the rear, giving it an elegant posture. It is paired with 18-inch five-spoke two-tone sporty alloy wheels, adding a touch of strength. The rear adopts a new bumper design, with the exhaust pipe optimized to a dual-exposed cannon-style configuration, enhancing the sporty feel.

To be honest, I've researched the Haval H4 for quite some time. This model is exclusively front-wheel drive across the entire lineup, with no four-wheel-drive version offered by the manufacturer. When I was car shopping, I really wanted 4WD too, so I specifically went to the dealership to ask the sales consultant. They explained that the H4 is positioned as an urban commuter SUV, prioritizing fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Great Wall Motors reserves the 4WD system for larger, more expensive models like the Haval H6 and H9. That said, the front-wheel drive feels perfectly adequate for daily driving—just need to be more cautious during rain or snow. If you genuinely need 4WD, you might want to check out the Haval Dargo or Tank 300; those models offer more professional off-road capabilities, though their prices are significantly higher.

As a veteran owner of three Haval vehicles, I can clearly tell you that the H4 doesn't have a 4WD version. This compact SUV is basically positioned as a 2WD model. My neighbor's 2019 H4 has already clocked 100,000 kilometers this year without any issues. The ground clearance is sufficient for handling ordinary rough roads - only hardcore off-road enthusiasts would need 4WD. Actually, more and more urban SUVs are abandoning 4WD these days since it increases fuel consumption and takes up space. I rent 4WD vehicles for long trips, but the H4 is more economical for daily commuting. If you want a Haval with 4WD, you can't go wrong with higher-trim H6 models or the Big Dog series.

The Haval H4 indeed does not offer a four-wheel-drive configuration. When I was changing cars, I did a lot of research, and all model years of this vehicle feature a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The manufacturer likely considered that buyers in this segment prioritize practicality and fuel efficiency. In fact, there aren’t many SUVs in the same price range with four-wheel drive, and those that do cost at least 20,000 yuan more. Personally, I find front-wheel drive sufficient for city driving, especially since it comes with features like tire pressure monitoring and electronic stability control. If off-road capability is a priority, you might want to consider a more rugged SUV like the H9. That said, the H4 handles quite nimbly, making it very agile for city driving and tight turns.

When I bought the Haval H4 two years ago, I checked and found that none of the trim levels came with a four-wheel-drive version. With 18 cm of ground clearance, it's sufficient for rural dirt roads, but if you really need to tackle mountains or water crossings, I'd recommend opting for a 4WD vehicle. The technical supervisor at the 4S dealership told me that the manufacturer didn't design the H4 with four-wheel drive mainly due to cost and positioning considerations—adding an extra drivetrain system would increase weight and impact fuel efficiency. After two years of driving, I feel the front-wheel drive performs flawlessly in urban scenarios; just pair it with snow tires in icy conditions. If you genuinely need 4WD, you might consider Great Wall's Tank series—those rugged off-roaders offer more assurance. For daily commuting, the H4's front-wheel drive is actually more hassle-free.

As an automotive industry observer, I must say all currently available Haval H4 models are exclusively front-wheel drive. The manufacturer's product lineup is quite clear - this model targets the 100,000-yuan urban SUV market segment. Only mid-size SUVs like the Haval H6 and Big Dog offer optional four-wheel drive. The advantage of front-wheel drive layout includes completely flat rear floor, higher space utilization, and simpler maintenance. I've accompanied friends on three test drives - the 1.5T engine paired with front-wheel drive proves adequate, delivering high transmission efficiency and fuel economy. For serious off-roading, considering higher-tier models would be advisable, as the H4's strength lies in comfortable commuting. Those with limited budgets desiring four-wheel drive might consider used hardcore off-roaders like the H5.
