Sure it can. My old pick-up truck is a V6 with no turbo, and it's been running just fine for over 200,000 miles. It's got all the power I need for hauling stuff around town. These newer turbo engines are great for getting more miles per gallon, but you don't need one. If your turbo goes bad, yeah, the car will feel like a dog, but you can probably limp it home or to the garage if you take it easy.
