There are two primary methods for powering the Extreme Networks AP510e access point: Power over Ethernet () and an external 12V DC power supply. Here's a breakdown of each option.
Power over Ethernet (PoE):
Description: This method utilizes the RJ45 Ethernet ports (LAN ports) of the AP510e to receive power, providing a streamlined power solution. The AP510e is compatible with both 802.3af and 802.3at standards, ensuring versatile deployment options. Requirements: To use PoE, your network infrastructure must support PoE. You'll need a PoE switch or injector that adheres to the 802.3af or 802.3at standards.
External 12V DC Power Supply:
Description: Alternatively, the AP510e can be powered via an external 12V DC power supply, which plugs into an AC power source. Note that when an external power supply is in use, PoE is disabled. Requirements: You'll need to purchase the optional 12V DC power supply (ordering part #37219 - PWR 12VDC, 3A, 2.5mm x 5.5mm connector) to use this method.
