The Envision does not have a fuel tank cap button. You can open it by shifting to P gear and pressing the outer part of the fuel tank. Fuel tanks can be divided into two types: open tanks and closed tanks. Open tanks have a liquid surface that communicates with the atmosphere, and an air filter is installed on the fuel tank cap. Open tanks have a simple structure and are easy to install and maintain, making them commonly used in hydraulic systems. Closed tanks are mostly used for pressurized fuel tanks, filled with a certain pressure of inert gas, with a charging pressure of up to 0.05MPa. The Envision is a mid-size SUV produced by SAIC-GM Buick, available with either a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The 1.5-liter version of the Envision is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission across all models, while the 2.0-liter version comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission across all models.

As a veteran owner who has driven two generations of the Envision, I'm quite familiar with this issue. Both the old and new models have the fuel door button located near the driver's left leg area, on the side of the dashboard where there's a curved plastic cover. Run your fingers along the gap beneath the dashboard to find a physical button with a fuel pump symbol - pressing it produces a click sound. The older model required unlocking the entire vehicle first, while the newer version allows direct pressing. Just last week, I had to teach my cousin how to locate this button when driving my 2020 Envision - it took him quite a while to find it. This area below the left side of the steering wheel is easily overlooked, especially in low-light nighttime conditions. I recommend applying a reflective sticker here for easier location.

As a Buick specialist technician, let me clarify the fuel filler door opening methods for the Envision series. For pre-2018 models, there's a dedicated button near the driver's left knee. Post-2019 models adopted central locking integration - the fuel door pops open automatically when the vehicle is unlocked. Owners who can't locate the button should first verify the key is in Park position and doors are unlocked. Some variants require engine shutdown for operation. In emergencies, use the key to access the backup port: remove the right tailgate trim panel to find a red pull-ring for manual release. Avoid prying the cover forcefully as plastic clips may break, costing 400-500 RMB in repairs.

As a newbie female driver, I just figured this out. When refueling my bestie's 2022 Enclave, I discovered the fuel tank cap button is so well hidden! It's located at the corner between the driver's door frame and the center console - look down above your knees to find a square button with a fuel pump icon. That day, it took me three presses to open it. Turns out what looked like a decorative strip was actually the switch. Later, I found an easier method: just approach the car with the key fob, press the unlock button, and you can simply pry open the fuel tank cap without even needing to find the button. Note that designs may vary across different vehicle models.

Post-95 car owners have a new trick to share. Driving my dad's retired 2016 Envision, the fuel tank button is located on the left panel below the steering wheel on the driver's side—a small silver square embedded in black plastic. Once during a car club discussion, I discovered that post-2018 models eliminated the physical button in favor of an electronic sensor unlock. Now, the smart version is even more convenient: after turning off the vehicle, simply tap the left side of the fuel tank cap with the car key, and it automatically pops open in three seconds. For owners who can't find the button, I recommend checking page 47 of the user manual—it's much more accurate than searching online.

From an automotive designer's perspective, explaining the design logic. The Envision's fuel filler door button is located on the left-side panel of the steering column, featuring an ergonomic forward-leaning design—allowing the driver to reach it naturally with their left hand when relaxed. The intentional concealment serves safety purposes: preventing accidental activation by children and unintended opening during collisions. After the 2019 model update with electronic unlocking, the button was eliminated, but an emergency mechanical switch was retained behind the right-side trunk liner. Owners are reminded to distinguish between gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions—the latter requires pressing the EV mode to unlock the fuel filler cap; otherwise, it triggers the anti-theft alarm.

What to Do If the Car Exceeds the First Maintenance Period?

The solution for a car exceeding the first maintenance period is: if it's overdue by about a month, the first maintenance can generally still be performed. The 4S dealership and manufacturer usually have a grace period for overdue first maintenance in terms of both time and mileage. The first maintenance is determined by two indicators: mileage and time, whichever comes first. It's not necessary to meet both conditions; exceeding either one can affect the first maintenance. The purposes of the first maintenance are: 1. To ensure the vehicle is in good performance condition; 2. To effectively improve the vehicle's efficiency and reduce wear on parts and tires; 3. To enhance driving safety; 4. To prevent vehicle malfunctions; 5. To reduce noise and environmental pollution; 6. To maintain the vehicle's appearance and prevent damage.
