Look for a metal pipe running from the firewall to a boxy part near the front passenger side. There should be two ports with different-sized caps. You want the smaller one, which usually has a black or blue cap. The bigger one is the high-pressure side—do not touch it. It’s under high pressure and can be dangerous. Honestly, if your AC isn't cold, just adding Freon might not be the real solution. There's a leak somewhere. The kits from the auto parts store are a Band-Aid. You might get cold air for a few weeks, but it'll just leak out again. A pro will use a vacuum pump and gauges to properly evacuate the system, find the leak (which could be a simple o-ring), fix it, and then recharge it. It costs more upfront but saves money and hassle in the long run.

Beyond the technical part, there's a legal and environmental side. Releasing this refrigerant is really bad for the environment and carries huge fines. That's why you're supposed to be certified to buy the good refrigerant and have the proper recovery machine. A shop will handle all that correctly. For me, knowing I'm not accidentally harming the environment while also getting a guaranteed, professional job is worth the cost of a service call.
