Refine S3 uses 10w30 engine oil. The functions of engine oil are: assisting in engine lubrication and wear reduction, cooling and temperature reduction, sealing and leakage prevention, rust and corrosion protection, as well as shock absorption and buffering. JAC Refine S3 is a compact 5-door, 5-seat SUV with body dimensions of: length 4345mm, width 1765mm, height 1640mm, and a wheelbase of 2560mm. It is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, delivering a maximum power of 85 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 150 Newton-meters. The drive system is front-engine, front-wheel drive, with a MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and a torsion beam non-independent suspension at the rear.

After driving the Refine S3 for three years, I've put a lot of thought into engine oil selection. The manual recommends 5W-30 or 5W-40 viscosity - I use 40 viscosity in hot southern summers for better protection. I've tried mineral, semi-synthetic and full synthetic oils, and now always keep Mobil 1 full synthetic on hand. Cold starts are much quicker, and engine noise is noticeably quieter at highway speeds. Remember to choose oil with strong high-temperature protection after 50,000 kilometers. I usually change oil every 8,000 km and check the oil filter during changes. Before winter temperature drops, I switch to more fluid 5W-30 - northern drivers should pay special attention. Never buy questionable oil from roadside stalls - engine repairs don't come cheap.

My S3 has run 80,000 kilometers in five years, and I've always used semi-synthetic oil. The manual states that either 5W-30 or 5W-40 is acceptable, mainly depending on price . During major e-commerce sales, I stock up on a few bottles of Shell HX7, which saves a lot compared to the 4S shop. I maintain a service interval of around 7,000 kilometers, and each time I have the mechanic check the oil dipstick. In summer, I opt for 5W-40 to avoid oil film breakdown, and the engine sound is noticeably more stable. When buying oil, look for certification grades, with SN being the minimum requirement. Nowadays, domestic Kunlun KR7 semi-synthetic oil is also quite good and suitable for this engine.

For the Refine S3 oil change, I prefer using 5W-30 full synthetic oil. The factory manual recommends this viscosity as it offers a good balance. I've used Castrol Edge before, and the engine starts more smoothly during cold starts. The oil grade should be at least SN, with SP being even better nowadays. Using low-viscosity oil in a new car can save some fuel costs. If you're in a southern region with consistently high temperatures, consider 5W-40; otherwise, long summer trips might lead to excessive oil temperatures. For normal driving, full synthetic oil can last up to 10,000 km, but in heavy traffic conditions, it's better to change it at 8,000 km. Don't skimp on the oil filter—choose reputable brands like Mann. Doing it yourself can save on labor costs.

Checked the manual, the S3 recommends 5W-30 or 5W-40 viscosity oil. I use Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 full synthetic oil, its anti-wear formula suits this engine. Stick to a 10,000 km oil change interval, more cost-effective than mineral oil. Pay attention to the GF-6 certification mark on the oil canister to protect the catalytic converter. In winter regions below zero, 5W grade ensures faster cold starts. New car owners shouldn’t skimp; at least use semi-synthetic oil. Keep the oil fill quantity around 3.5 liters; overfilling affects performance. Check the dipstick color monthly; if it turns black, change it early.

I've used four types of engine oil in my Refine S3. Mineral oil is the cheapest but needs changing every 5,000 km, while full synthetic is more convenient but slightly expensive. Now I stick with 5W-30 semi-synthetic for a balance between price and performance. Pay special attention to the oil grade - SP grade offers better protection than the older SN grade. For summer road trips, I switch to 5W-40 to prevent oil film breakdown. The manufacturer's recommended viscosity is mainly based on engine precision - using higher viscosity randomly actually increases fuel consumption. Choose oil filters from OEM suppliers like Bosch, and always check the sealing ring. Northern owners must switch to low-viscosity oil before winter for easier cold starts below zero.
