Boyue models with different configurations have varying weights. The curb weight of the 4WD model is 1745 kilograms, while the 2.0L manual transmission model weighs 1565 kilograms. The Geely Boyue is a compact SUV with dimensions of 4519mm in length, 1831mm in width, and 1694mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2670mm and a curb weight of 1575kg. The front suspension of the Geely Boyue is a MacPherson independent suspension, and the rear suspension is a multi-link independent suspension. It is equipped with a 1.8L turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 163ps, a maximum power of 120kw, and a maximum torque of 250nm, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

I drive a Boyue PRO, and the car is indeed not light. The curb weight varies depending on the version. The 1.5T model weighs just over 1.5 tons, the 1.8T model is close to 1.6 tons, and the 4WD version can reach up to 1.7 tons. When I first got the car, I could clearly feel it was more cumbersome than the sedan I drove before when parking in reverse, but it feels more stable on the highway. The weight is mainly due to the use of a lot of high-strength steel, solid chassis materials, and even the door panels are thicker than those of Japanese cars. Once when I took a turn in the rain, there was almost no body roll, which I think is thanks to the car's weight.

I've paid attention to the weight issue of the Boyue, mainly focusing on the engine and drivetrain. The 1.8T front-wheel-drive manual version weighs about 1.55 tons, while the automatic version is a few dozen kilograms heavier. When helping a friend choose a car, I compared it and found it's similar in weight to the Haval H6, and about 100 kg heavier than the CR-V. Excessive weight affects fuel consumption; the Boyue inevitably consumes around 11L/100km in city driving, but the weight provides a sense of safety. Even with the trunk fully loaded with New Year goods, the car doesn't feel floaty, and the suspension compression is well controlled.

The curb weight of the Boyue ranges from 1.52 tons to 1.68 tons. The base model with a 1.5T three-cylinder engine is the lightest, while the top-tier four-wheel-drive version is heavier due to the added differential. During the last , the car was lifted to inspect the chassis—the full-frame subframe is quite sturdy, and the resin fuel tank doesn’t add much weight. The extra weight has its advantages; driving through crosswind areas on the highway during the New Year was much more stable compared to the neighbor’s Qashqai. However, the steering wheel is noticeably heavy when parking, so women may want to opt for a version with stronger electric power steering.

After checking the data, the curb weight of the Boyue falls within the range of 1,540-1,685 kg. The 1.8T automatic transmission version with a panoramic sunroof adds about 70 kg, and the four-wheel-drive system adds another 130 kg. I often drive long distances, and while a heavier car provides better cornering support, it's true that the acceleration is a bit slower. Once, I had five colleagues in the car, totaling nearly 400 pounds in weight, and the car still handled speed bumps with ease. The technician said a heavier car is better because the thicker sheet metal means minor scratches won't be a big deal.

During the test drive, I specifically asked the salesperson—the old Boyue model weighs at least 1.6 tons. After the redesign, lightweight materials were used, like switching the hood to aluminum alloy, but the new chassis structure is more complex, which actually added weight. The new Boyue L hybrid version also includes a pack, pushing the weight straight to 1.7 tons. When driving, the initial throttle response feels a bit sluggish, but during hard braking, the ABS kicks in later compared to lighter cars, likely due to inertia helping out. It’s recommended to opt for tire pressure monitoring—the car’s heavy weight can easily wear out tires.
