Automatic transmission car's S gear stands for the sport mode. In S gear sport mode, the transmission can shift freely, but the shifting timing is delayed, keeping the engine at high RPM for a longer period. This allows the car to maintain a lower gear with higher RPM for an extended time, resulting in greater torque output and acceleration. The S gear is typically used when climbing hills or for quick overtaking. Simply push the gear lever into the S position to engage it. Since the S gear only delays upshifting without altering other operational aspects, it inevitably increases the transmission load in the short term, leading to higher temperatures and accelerated wear. Therefore, it is advisable not to use the S gear for prolonged periods.
