What Causes the Plastic Rattling Noise in the Equinox Door Panel?

Equinox door panel plastic rattling noise may be caused by internal wiring harness hitting the door panel, inner pull cable hitting the door panel, seal strip issues, or the door itself. Internal wiring harness hitting the door panel: The rattling noise caused by the internal wiring harness hitting the door panel. When driving on bumpy roads, the internal wiring harness may impact the door. Inner pull cable hitting the door panel: The rattling noise caused by the inner pull cable hitting the door panel. The sound is quite noticeable when the inner pull cable impacts the door panel. Seal strip issues: The rattling noise caused by the door seal strip. After prolonged use, the seal strip itself gradually ages. Door itself: The rattling noise caused by the door itself. This issue occurs when the door lock striker is installed too far outward.
I also experienced squeaky door panels when driving my Equinox. It's mainly caused by the thermal expansion and contraction of plastic parts during temperature changes. Expansion in hot weather or contraction in winter can cause friction between the door panel and clips. Loose screws inside the door or worn/deformed clips may also be the culprit, especially noticeable on bumpy roads with stronger vibrations.
I've dealt with it several times myself: First try removing the door trim panel and tighten all screws with a screwdriver. If you can't locate loose parts, spray some silicone-based lubricant on plastic seams to reduce friction. Never use water-based lubricants as they tend to leave unpleasant odors.
While the noise doesn't affect driving safety, prolonged friction may damage the plastic or enlarge cracks over time. If you're not comfortable DIY, visit a repair shop - they can quickly diagnose and fix the issue. Regular maintenance focusing on interior fasteners can help prevent similar problems.
