If the buzzing persists, it could indicate a faulty temperature sensor or temperature regulator. 2. Buzzing sound during low-speed driving or gear shifting: This is usually caused by excessive clearance between the piston and cylinder wall. Improper installation leading to overly tight assembly or abnormal wear can also produce buzzing sounds. 3. Buzzing sound during high-speed driving: This may be caused by sound resonance. During high-speed operation, using incorrect engine oil can also lead to this phenomenon. Improper oil selection prevents adequate lubrication inside the engine, potentially causing buzzing sounds. Alternatively, water pump abnormalities such as blockages or leaks can also result in engine buzzing issues.

I've been a truck driver for over a decade and have seen plenty of engine humming issues. The most common cause is when the belts loosen or age and crack after prolonged use, producing a continuous buzzing sound like bees when rotating. If the sound is closer to the firewall near the cabin, consider whether it's a problem with the transmission torque converter. Many cars nowadays are turbocharged, and when the turbo bearing wears out or the lubrication can't keep up, it can also produce a sharp buzzing sound. If the noise gets louder when the air conditioning is on, extra attention is needed—it's often caused by loose cooling fan bearings or deformed fan blades leading to abnormal air noise. Additionally, owners who have modified their headlights or audio systems should check if the additional load is too high, causing the alternator to overload and produce a buzzing sound.

This issue can also be deciphered from the perspective of repair costs. The most economical solution might be replacing a belt or a tensioner component costing just a few dozen yuan. If you find that a wheel bearing is damaged, replacing a new bearing usually only costs a few hundred yuan to resolve. However, if the humming sound is coming from the turbocharger, you need to be cautious, as the repair cost can surge into four digits or even tens of thousands. I recommend first checking whether the transmission fluid level is normal, as insufficient or deteriorated fluid can cause torque converter noise. Older vehicles are particularly prone to bearing issues, with the sound becoming noticeably louder when driving above 60 km/h. Additionally, aging engine mount bushings can also produce a metallic buzzing sound similar to vibration, and replacing the engine mount bushings typically costs a few hundred yuan to fix.

Never ignore the safety risks indicated by engine humming sounds. If you hear abnormal noises while driving, immediately reduce speed and pull over to inspect. A loose belt can snap at any time, causing the alternator, air conditioning, and water pump to all fail. Severely damaged front wheel bearings may lead to wheel lock-up at high speeds, which is no joking matter. A problematic driveshaft center bearing produces rhythmic humming noises, and continued driving could result in fracture accidents. Turbocharger bearing issues are the most troublesome, not only expensive to repair but also potentially causing oil burning or even spontaneous combustion. Additionally, the forced operation of an obstructed electric fan produces particularly dangerous humming sounds, which can easily burn out the fan motor.

Based on my experience, buzzing sounds at different pitches indicate different issues. High-frequency sounds resembling mosquito buzzing are often caused by failed bearings in the water pump, alternator pulley, or AC compressor.
