What Causes the Door Handle to Not Retract Smoothly?

Door handle not retracting smoothly is due to lack of lubricant or a faulty door handle spring. During the use of the car, it may be because the door handle has been used for too long, accumulating a lot of dust inside. There is a spring inside the door handle, which is a return spring. If the handle is used for a long time, the return tension of the spring may become insufficient, also causing the spring not to retract. The design of door handles varies among different car brands. The door handles used in cars are divided into two types: solid door handles and hollow door handles. The characteristic of solid door handles is that they are relatively thick; hollow door handles are designed with the back hollowed out, improving the issue of handle bending.
The door handle does not return smoothly, possible causes include insufficient lubrication causing mechanism jamming, dust or dirt entering the cable or spring mechanism causing blockage, wear and deformation or rust on the cable increasing friction, fatigue failure of the internal spring in the door lock unable to provide sufficient rebound force, and improper assembly or deformation of the door handle causing mechanical interference. If the door is opened and closed frequently, these components are prone to aging, especially in humid environments where corrosion is exacerbated. In this case, you can first try spraying some WD-40 lubricant for testing. If ineffective, it is necessary to check whether the cable is loose or broken and replace parts if needed. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the door handle can prevent such problems, avoiding unexpected door openings while driving and enhancing safety.
