Carbon deposits on spark plugs cause poor engine performance, resulting in difficulties starting, unstable idling, poor acceleration, backfiring during sudden acceleration, excessive exhaust emissions, and increased fuel consumption. 5. Engine misfire. An engine misfire leads to high fuel consumption, poor acceleration, and engine stalling.

That time, the engine warning light suddenly came on, and the accelerator pedal felt particularly sluggish, as if the car was being held back and couldn't accelerate. After inspection, it turned out to be an issue with the ignition system. The spark plugs had aged, resulting in insufficient ignition energy and incomplete combustion. Driving a manual transmission with a sluggish throttle feels like stepping into a swamp. First, check the exhaust smoke color: black smoke indicates an overly rich air-fuel mixture, possibly due to a faulty carbon canister solenoid valve; white smoke means coolant is burning, likely from a blown head gasket; blue smoke signals oil burning issues. Overfilled engine oil can also cause excessive crankcase pressure, hindering piston movement. A stuck EGR valve allows exhaust gases to flow back into the cylinders, blocking fresh air intake and sapping power.
