
The Mazda Atenza transmission is jointly developed by Mazda and Aisin. Established in 1969, Aisin is a world-renowned specialist in the research, development, and manufacturing of automotive automatic transmissions, holding the top global market share in this field. The Atenza uses a 6-speed automatic manual transmission. A six-speed automatic manual transmission combines six-speed manual shifting with automatic transmission functionality. This type of transmission features eight forward gears. Essentially, it is a traditional AT or CVT transmission enhanced with manual shifting capabilities, designed to enhance the driving pleasure of automatic vehicles. For the Atenza's transmission, the following points should be noted during daily use: Do not delay transmission fluid changes for extended periods. Prolonged intervals can damage internal components such as bearings and the transmission housing. Avoid prolonged coasting in neutral. While some experienced drivers coast in neutral with manual transmissions, doing so in an automatic can cause overheating and create shocks when re-engaging D gear. Never shift into D/R gear before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Some drivers shift into reverse while still moving to demonstrate smooth operation, but this severely damages transmission gears and can lead to gear grinding over time. Avoid frequent steep hill climbs in D gear. Automatic vehicles may overheat under high load or upshift prematurely, causing loss of climbing power.
