Differences in appearance: Run-flat tires have special markings. These special markings are generally located after the tire size on the sidewall. The specific markings vary depending on the tire brand. If there are special markings, it is a run-flat tire; if there are no special markings, it is a regular tire. Differences in structure: The sidewalls of regular tires are relatively thin, while the sidewalls of run-flat tires are thicker. Due to their different structure, run-flat tires are more durable, more wear-resistant, and safer than regular tires. Differences in performance: In addition to the functions of regular tires, run-flat tires can allow the vehicle to travel a certain distance even when the tire pressure is zero. Generally, they can travel up to 80 kilometers at a speed of 80 km/h. Differences in weight: Run-flat tires are heavier than regular tires. If a car is equipped with four run-flat tires, it is equivalent to carrying the weight of an additional person.

I did some serious research on this last time I changed tires. Actually, the most straightforward way is to look at the appearance: run-flat tires will definitely have letter combinations like SSR or RSC on the sidewall. The tire shop owner taught me to feel the sidewall - run-flat tires are as hard as a piece of rubber wood. The tire pressure monitoring system is especially important for run-flat tires; it alerts me to drive slowly when there's a loss of air pressure. Most cars with run-flat tires also have wheel covers printed with Continental's unique logo. However, it's important to note that different brands have different markings: Michelin uses ZP, and Bridgestone writes RFT.

When I recently changed tires, I specifically compared the two types. The most noticeable difference was the sidewall markings - regular tires were smooth, while run-flat tires were densely marked with ROF or RFT labels. The most obvious tactile difference was when pressing with fingers - run-flats were completely rigid, whereas regular tires could be depressed about half a centimeter. The tread patterns also differed, with run-flats typically having deeper and denser grooves. The triangular symbol commonly found at the center of the wheel hub is another important clue. Once I even noticed small SSR lettering engraved on the tire sidewall, which the shop owner explained stands for Continental's run-flat tire technology.
