Where am I gonna fuel this thing? That's the whole problem. I looked into it, and there are basically no stations unless you're in a tiny part of California. It's like having a phone that only works in one city. Even if you find a station, the price of the fuel is all over the map and it's not cheap. The efficiency argument is what gets me. You have to use electricity to create hydrogen, compress it, transport it in special trucks, and then convert it back to electricity in the car. At every step, you lose energy. With a battery-electric car, you're just moving electrons from the wall socket to the battery with far less loss. So, for the same amount of original energy, a hydrogen car simply can't go as far as a battery car. It feels like an overly complicated solution.

I think about the total cost of ownership. The sticker price is high, and the fuel costs are unpredictable. But what really worries me is depreciation. With such a limited and uncertain refueling network, the resale value of these cars could plummet. It's a major financial risk. I'd be concerned about being stuck with a vehicle that no one wants to buy in three or four years because the infrastructure hasn't grown as promised.

For me, the environmental promise falls flat unless you're sure about the hydrogen source. Most of it is made from fossil fuels, which defeats the purpose. Until there's a massive shift to "green hydrogen" made with solar or wind power, driving a hydrogen car isn't much cleaner than a efficient gas car. You're still indirectly relying on the natural gas grid. It's a great idea for a future we haven't built yet, but right now, it's not a truly green choice.
