But when running air conditioning or climbing slopes, the 4000 handles it with much more composure. There's a price difference of over 100,000 yuan between them, along with different configurations - the 4000 typically comes with leather seats, JBL audio system, and seat heating. If you frequently take long trips or go on road trips, the 4000 gives more peace of mind.

I recently studied these two models and found significant differences in their configurations. The 2700 seems more like an entry-level option, with mostly fabric seats, manual air conditioning, and often missing practical features like heated mirrors. The 4000 is much more advanced, featuring standard dual-zone automatic air conditioning, auto-dimming mirrors, and even rear entertainment systems and heated steering wheels in the top trim. While both have four-wheel drive, the 4000's active traction control system reacts faster, offering much better capability in muddy conditions.

From a space practicality perspective, the 2700 and 4000 models share similar body dimensions, but there are notable differences in details. The 4000 features a lower trunk floor, making it more convenient for loading large luggage, whereas the 2700's trunk is slightly higher, which can be more strenuous when handling heavy items. The driving position in the 4000 is more ergonomic, with a steering wheel that offers four-way adjustment, particularly accommodating for drivers over 1.8 meters tall. The seat padding also differs; the 4000's cushions are thicker, providing better comfort during long drives of five to six hours without as much back fatigue. Storage designs vary as well—the 4000 includes a dedicated slot and card holder in the center console, while the 2700's door pocket storage compartments are relatively smaller. The third-row seating in the 4000 offers more generous space, making it suitable for occasional family trips.

In the market, the 2700 model is particularly common, and many units with 200,000 to 300,000 kilometers still sell well, but pay attention to the differences in versions. The Middle East version of the 2700 generally does not come with ESP, making driving in rain or snow a bit nerve-wracking, while the domestic version includes a stability system. The 4000 model holds its value better, especially the VX version with adjustable suspension, which can still fetch a good price even after five years. In terms of maintenance and repairs, the 2700 is much cheaper—replacing an original part can be done for around a thousand yuan, whereas the headlight assembly for the 4000 costs four to five thousand. However, the 4000's transmission is more durable, often running 300,000 kilometers without major issues, while the 2700's transmission may require valve body repairs after just over 100,000 kilometers. Insurance costs for the 4000 are about two thousand yuan more per year.

When off-roading, I often encounter friends driving the Land Cruiser Prado and notice a significant difference in obstacle-crossing capabilities between the two models. The 2700 struggles particularly when climbing dunes in the desert—even in low-range 4WD, the RPM goes up but the speed doesn’t increase much, making it prone to getting stuck. The 4000’s torque advantage is evident here, conquering sand dunes effortlessly. There’s also a difference in wading depth: the 2700’s lower air intake means you have to be cautious with water over 40 cm, while the 4000 can easily handle 50 cm. As for modification potential, it’s no contest—adding a supercharger to the 2700 costs 70,000–80,000 RMB, and the performance boost only brings it close to the stock 4000. Upgrading the 4000 with nitrogen shocks barely affects its power, whereas the 2700 feels even slower after suspension mods. For serious hardcore off-roading, the 4000 is clearly the more reliable choice.
