I've been driving this Lingpai Hybrid for almost two years now, and I can clearly tell you the engine is a three-cylinder. Before purchasing, I also struggled with this issue and specifically researched: the 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine indeed only has three cylinders. However, the hybrid system is quite amazing—during startup and low speeds, it mainly relies on the electric motor for propulsion. As someone who has studied hybrid technology, I've compared the structural differences between the Lingpai Hybrid and its gasoline counterpart. In the hybrid system, the fuel efficiency advantage of the three-cylinder engine is actually amplified.

Unlike traditional fuel-powered vehicles, this system features three driving modes: in pure electric mode, the engine shuts down completely; in hybrid mode, the engine only generates electricity; and it directly connects to drive only during high-speed cruising. This design ensures the three-cylinder engine always operates within its efficient RPM range, avoiding low-speed vibration issues. Additionally, the pack is placed under the rear seat, resulting in a more balanced front-to-rear weight distribution, offering better cornering stability compared to the fuel version.

Last month, I accompanied a friend to a 4S dealership for a test drive of the Lingpai Hybrid. The salesperson demonstrated the engine state during a cold start: the electric motor first drives the vehicle to move slowly, and the engine only engages once the water and oil temperatures have risen, with virtually no noticeable vibration. I specifically opened the hood to observe: the engine itself indeed has only three ignition coils, and the exhaust manifold is also a three-in-one structure. However, for the hybrid version, it's important to pay attention to the cleaning of the cooling filter; it needs to be replaced every 20,000 kilometers.
