The Yamaha Jog scooter indeed uses Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Having ridden the Jog for five or six years, my most direct impression is that there's absolutely no need to shift gears – just twist the throttle and go, which is incredibly convenient. It automatically adjusts the gear ratio through the front pulley on the engine side and the rear movable pulley, with the belt transmitting power in between. The higher the RPM, the faster it goes, completely eliminating the need to clutch and shift like on a standard motorcycle. However, there's a minor drawback: some power is lost in transmission efficiency during acceleration, but it's perfectly adequate for daily commuting. Just remember to regularly clean the transmission box air intake to prevent the belt from overheating and breaking.

The CVT on the Jog is much smarter than traditional gear systems. The engine speed, centrifugal force, and spring tension work together to automatically find the optimal shifting point. I tested it with GPS records - at 20km/h the RPM was 4000, and at 60km/h it was just over 6000 RPM. Compared to the frequent gear shifting on sport bikes, the Jog maintains RPMs in the efficient range throughout. But be aware that belt tension may loosen with use, and the rear pulley's shoes may cause startup vibration when worn. It's recommended to check shoe thickness every 8,000 km - replace them if below 3mm.
