The Tayron is equipped with a CUG 2.0T high-power engine and a DBF 2.0T low-power engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Tayron is a German premium midsize SUV, produced by FAW- and built on the MQB A2 platform, based on the European version of the Tiguan. As a long-time owner of two generations of the Tayron, I've actually removed the engine cover to verify this. The engine cover of my 2021 380TSI model bears a FAW- Changchun nameplate, but the turbocharger housing is stamped with BorgWarner's Germany factory marking. After consulting a Volkswagen engineer friend, I learned that currently domestically produced EA888 engines fall into three categories: the low-power version is basically 100% locally manufactured; core components like the high-pressure fuel pump and ECU control unit in the high-power version are imported; while the 1.5T engine in the plug-in hybrid version is actually imported as a complete unit. Except for five precision components like the crankshaft position sensor and high-pressure fuel injectors that require imports, the rest are produced at the Changchun base. Here's a little-known fact: you can tell by the first letter of the engine number—'F' indicates a German-imported assembly, while 'L' signifies Changchun assembly. However, starting this year, all Tayron models have switched to the new China 6b-compliant engines, replacing even that last 5% of imported parts with components produced in Ningbo. Essentially, there are no imported elements in the current models anymore.

Here's a practical identification tip from an auto parts professional: Open the engine compartment and check the turbocharger's blow-off valve. The imported version features a silver metal material, while the domestic version uses black plastic. Then feel the wiring harness connector at the upper right corner of the engine—imported parts use a German-standard trapezoidal plug with a waterproof rubber ring, whereas domestic versions simplify it to a square plug. But honestly, even Audi Q5L engines are now produced in Changchun, so obsessing over imports is less meaningful than focusing on the upgrades of the third-gen EA888: The domestic version newly added APS cylinder wall coating technology, making it more wear-resistant than the European version.
