There are two methods to open the trunk of Baojun 730: 1. When the central locking is engaged, press and hold the middle button on the remote control for 2 seconds until you hear a beep, then the trunk will open; 2. If the central locking is not engaged, simply press the opening button located to the right of the license plate light on the trunk door. The Baojun 730 CVT version is equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed simulated CVT transmission. The turbocharger in this engine is Honeywell's next-generation model, delivering a rated power of 111kW and a maximum net torque of 250Nm. The turbo engages at around 1000 RPM and reaches the maximum torque of mainstream 2.4L naturally aspirated engines on the market by 1600 RPM.

When I drove the Baojun 730 before, I just needed to find the button with the trunk icon on the left side of the driver's seat or the lower left corner of the steering wheel and press it, and the trunk would pop open a crack. The most convenient way is to use the remote key. Within about 2 meters of the car, press and hold the separate trunk unlock button on the key for 3 seconds, and the trunk will unlock as soon as the hazard lights flash. The new high-end car keys are sensor-based; just to the rear of the car with the key in your pocket and stand for a few seconds, and the trunk will open automatically. There's also a small groove at the bottom of the trunk that can be used to open it—just insert your finger and lift upwards. If the battery is dead, don't worry. First, fold down the rear seats, climb in, and pry open the trunk liner. Then, use the key head to poke the mechanical lock inside for an emergency opening, although the posture might not be very elegant.

My neighbor asked me the same question just a couple of days ago. After helping him for a while, I found it's actually quite simple: the Baojun 730 doesn't have a separate button on the center console. You need to bend down and look near the driver's left knee position, where there's a small switch with a rear car emblem on a black plastic panel. The standalone button in the middle of the remote key controls the tailgate - press it for three seconds until the red light flashes twice, and it will open. For base models without a key button, you'll have to manually open the car door and to the rear. Above the license plate on both sides, there are two small holes where you can insert your fingers to feel elastic rubber blocks. Push them upward until you hear a click sound to unlock. For higher trim models with automatic tailgate lifting, be careful to avoid pinching your hands as the tailgate will automatically rise about 15 centimeters after unlocking.

A 2020 model year owner taught me this exclusive trick. Besides the conventional key fob unlock and interior handle, this car has a sensor-based opening feature: with the factory key in your pocket, simply wave your foot under the rear bumper (aim right below the license plate), and when the hazard lights flash, step back half a step to trigger automatic trunk opening. However, the sensor may be less responsive on rainy days when the ground is slippery. The interior handle is cleverly hidden on the left side of the steering column, obscured by the wheel—you’ll need to duck your head to locate it. Older models lack the foot-sensing feature and require manually pressing a concealed switch above the license plate light. When locked, you must hold the trunk button on the key fob for at least two seconds to activate it.

As a seasoned mechanic who has repaired hundreds of Baojun vehicles, I recommend checking these points first: whether the key is dead causing weak signals; if the child lock is accidentally activated (there's a white knob on the inner edge of the tailgate); or if a short circuit is causing the control module to fail (especially in water-damaged vehicles). There are three conventional methods to open it: 1) Press and hold the tailgate button on the remote key for 3 seconds; 2) Look for a rectangular switch with raised dots near the driver's leg area; 3) Simply press the rubber button above the license plate. For high-end models with automatic lift, avoid manually forcing the tailgate down as it can burn out the motor. If it won't open, first fold down the second-row seats and lift the tailgate lining to reveal the red emergency pull ring.

A female car owner shares a handy tip: The most practical feature when returning from grocery shopping with both hands full is the remote trunk release. Point the key towards the rear of the car, hold down the button with the car icon until you hear the unlocking sound, then release. When closing the trunk, check if the two rubber stoppers on the inner side of the door panel are worn or missing, as lack of cushioning can prevent a proper seal. Be cautious when opening the trunk on rainy days to avoid water pouring down from above. Last year, after my car was rear-ended and repaired, I found that the painter had misaligned the trunk latch hook; adjusting the angle fixed the issue. The mechanical keyhole is located between the license plate lights—turning it counterclockwise 90 degrees can also open the trunk, but you’ll end up getting your hands dirty from lying on the ground.
