Envix is equipped with a 3-cylinder engine. An engine is a machine that can convert one form of energy into another, typically transforming chemical energy into mechanical energy. Taking the 2021 Honda Envix as an example, its body dimensions are: length 4756mm, width 1804mm, height 1509mm, wheelbase 2730mm, fuel tank capacity 40L, and curb weight 1376kg. The 2021 Honda Envix is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum horsepower of 109ps and a maximum power of 80kw, paired with an eCVT continuously variable transmission.

I drive a Envix and usually fill it up with 92-octane gasoline. When friends asked about the engine cylinders, I told them the fuel version has a 1.0T three-cylinder engine. The three-cylinder engine is fuel-efficient, averaging just over 6 liters per 100 kilometers in city commuting, though the steering wheel shakes slightly twice during cold starts. It’s quite stable on highways, though. The hybrid version is different—it uses a 1.5L four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, making start-stop transitions almost imperceptible. Currently, 4S stores mainly promote the hybrid version because it’s quiet and fuel-efficient, especially with the obvious advantage of electric motor driving in traffic jams. I recommend test-driving both for comparison. The three-cylinder offers great value for money, while the four-cylinder hybrid provides an upgraded experience. Just choose based on your personal needs.

After researching the engine configurations of the Enjoyment, it comes in both fuel and hybrid versions. The fuel version is equipped with a 1.0-liter inline three-cylinder turbocharged engine. uses a smaller displacement to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and with the start-stop technology, it is sufficient for daily commuting. The hybrid version is fitted with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine plus dual motors, where the engine primarily charges the battery, and the driving is handled by the motors. This combination addresses potential vibration issues associated with three-cylinder engines, making city driving particularly smooth. Both versions are paired with CVT transmissions, but the hybrid version offers more direct power response, especially in pure electric mode at low speeds, which is very quiet.

Recently helped my cousin pick a car and specifically checked the Envix data. The fuel version comes with a 1.0T three-cylinder engine across the range, delivering 131 horsepower which is adequate, but the engine noise is slightly loud during rapid acceleration. The hybrid version upgrades to a 1.5L four-cylinder engine, with a combined system output of 154 horsepower, and is quieter at low speeds due to electric-only driving. Comparison shows that the three-cylinder version has cheaper maintenance, while the four-cylinder hybrid boasts fuel consumption as low as around 4 liters. Honda has optimized the three-cylinder with balance shafts, making vibration hardly noticeable when new, but it's recommended to check the engine mounts after driving 50,000 kilometers.

Having serviced many Envix models, the fuel versions uniformly feature three-cylinder engines. During maintenance, it was observed that spark plug carbon buildup occurs faster compared to four-cylinder vehicles, recommending throttle body cleaning every 20,000 km. The hybrid version is equipped with an Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, offering high thermal efficiency but with a more complex structure, and the battery pack occupies trunk space. The advantage of the three-cylinder engine lies in its lower cost, with oil and filter changes costing around 300 yuan, whereas four-cylinder hybrid maintenance must also account for the motor system. For long-term use, the hybrid is recommended due to reduced engine load and longer lifespan.

A colleague commutes with an Inspire and mentioned that the fuel-powered three-cylinder engine vibrates like a at startup but stabilizes once moving. He regrets not opting for the hybrid four-cylinder version, as the electric motor assistance during the test drive made acceleration incredibly smooth, with the engine engaging almost imperceptibly. The newer models now feature active noise cancellation to compensate for the three-cylinder's NVH shortcomings, but in the used car market, the hybrid versions hold their value better. For city driving, the four-cylinder hybrid offers a superior overall experience, especially since the electric motor can operate without even starting the engine.
