If you just shut the car off, the pipe coming out of the engine is the hottest spot—it can glow red. Honestly, the whole thing is hot enough to give you a terrible burn in half a second. I learned that the hard way as a kid brushing against a muffler. The tip where the smoke comes out is cooler, but still way too hot to touch safely. Just assume it's all off-limits until it's been sitting for a few hours.
