Oh, learned this the hard way last year. Had my hazards on while stopped on the shoulder for a flat tire. Was on the phone with roadside assistance for about 45 minutes. When I went to start the car to pull over further, it just clicked. Dead as a doornail. The tow truck guy had to give me a jump. He said it happens all the time. Now I only use them for a few minutes if I'm stopped, just to get noticed, then I turn them off.
