Generally, no, you cannot flat tow (all four wheels on the ground) a smart car. This prohibition applies specifically to the popular Fortwo models produced from 1998 onwards. The primary reason is their automated manual transmission, which lacks a traditional pump to circulate lubricant when the engine is off. Flat towing it, even in neutral, can cause severe and costly transmission damage within just a few miles.

The only potential exception is for the very first model year (1998) equipped with a manual transmission, but you must consult the owner's manual for explicit instructions. For all other smart Fortwo models, the only safe towing methods are using a flatbed trailer or a dolly that lifts the front wheels off the ground. This isolates the drivetrain and prevents internal damage.

If you're an RV owner considering a smart car as a "toad," this is a critical limitation. While their small size is appealing, the flat towing restriction is a significant drawback. Always prioritize the method recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual. The risk of destroying your transmission simply isn't worth the convenience of flat towing.

I looked into this hard when I got my RV. The answer is a firm no for almost every smart car. Their quirky transmission can't handle it. You'll fry it before you even get to the campground. It's a real bummer because the size is perfect. Your only real option is a dolly for the front wheels or a full trailer. Just don't risk it.

As an auto tech, I've seen the aftermath of a flat-towed smart car. The transmission is not designed for this. When the engine is off, critical parts aren't getting lubricated. It's not a matter of if it will be damaged, but how quickly. The repair bill will be many times more than the cost of just renting a proper trailer. Always use a flatbed.

My neighbor learned this the expensive way. He flat-towed his smart car about 30 miles behind his motorhome. The car had to be towed again from the RV park to a repair shop with a completely seized transmission. The mechanic said it's a common and entirely preventable mistake. Check your manual, but plan on using a dolly.

Beyond the transmission, you have other factors. The electric power steering and brakes won't function with the ignition off, making the car difficult to maneuver when unhitched. Also, ensuring the steering column isn't locked is a hassle. For such a light vehicle, a tow dolly is a relatively simple and safe solution that protects your investment and avoids a nightmare.

What is the battery model for the 2013 Mondeo?

The original battery for the Mondeo is VARTA, with the model specification T6 12V/60AH 105RC 590CCA. The battery dimensions are 27.6 cm in length, 17.5 cm in width, and 17.5 cm in height. The designed lifespan of the battery is 27 months. Generally, family vehicles are more economical, and new car batteries often last 3-4 years. However, after the first replacement, it is usually necessary to replace the battery every 2 years or so. The steps to test the condition of the battery are as follows: 1. Inspect the battery's exterior: Check if the battery casing is bulging, leaking, cracked, or if the terminals are corroded. If any of these signs are present, it indicates that the battery is dead and needs replacement. 2. Measure the battery voltage: After charging for two hours, check the voltage of each cell every 20 minutes. If it is below 13V, the battery has issues. During discharge, perform three checks every 10 minutes. If the discharge time is faster than other batteries and the voltage drops below 10V, the battery is faulty. 3. Check for "dehydration" and blackening: After charging the battery for 3-6 hours, if the charger's red light remains on, it indicates severe "dehydration." Open the battery's top cover to reveal six round holes. If the electrolyte inside appears black, it means the lead powder from the plates has fallen off, indicating a dead cell.
