
Storing gasoline in the trunk is unsafe, especially in plastic containers. It is extremely dangerous to keep gasoline in a plastic container inside the trunk. Plastic containers are made of high-molecular insulating materials such as polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. Gasoline, classified as a Class A flammable liquid, has a flashpoint below 28°C and an explosion limit below 10%. When gasoline is stored in a plastic container, friction between the gasoline and the container walls during filling, pouring, or shaking can generate static electricity due to electron movement caused by contact potential difference, leading to the accumulation of positive and negative charges. If you must store gasoline in the trunk, use a sealed iron barrel and monitor the trunk's temperature. Specialized gasoline barrels are safer, but the following precautions should be taken: Sealing: Ensure the barrel has a proper, tightly sealed lid. Regular Inspection: Periodically check the barrel for corrosion, bulging, defects, dents, or leaks. Place defective barrels in a separate secondary containment or an emergency leak-proof container.
