I had it happen once. The steering wheel got super heavy pulling out of my driveway, and there was a awful screeching sound from under the hood. I only had to go a mile to the mechanic, but it was terrifying. I had to use all my strength just to make a simple turn. Don't be like me. If your steering goes heavy, stop driving and get it towed. It's not worth the risk.
