Ah, the Bicentennial dollar, a real party animal from 1976! You might think a coin celebrating America's 200th birthday would feature one of the powdered-wig-wearing Founding Fathers, but you'd be mistaken. The honor of gracing the front of this commemorative coin belongs to a more modern leader.
The president on the Bicentennial silver dollar is none other than Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower, the 34th U.S. President. The coin is technically a special edition of the Eisenhower dollar. While the reverse, or tails side, got a groovy Bicentennial makeover featuring the Liberty Bell superimposed on the Moon, Ike's distinguished portrait on the obverse remained unchanged. So, while the party was on the back, the business of being a presidential coin was all Ike, all the time, right up front.
