Oh no, a nail varnish spill on the sofa can feel like a disaster, but don't panic! With a little care, you can often get it out. The key is to act as quickly as possible, especially if the polish is still wet.
First, gently blot the fresh spill with a clean cloth or paper towel to soak up any excess polish. Try not to rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the fabric. Before you use any cleaning solution, it's super important to find the care tag on your sofa and do a spot test on a hidden area, like under a cushion, to make sure the fabric won't be damaged.
Your best tool for this job is a non-acetone nail polish remover. Acetone can be too harsh and may harm or even melt certain types of upholstery fabric. Apply a small amount of the non-acetone remover to a clean, white cloth. Gently dab the stain with the cloth, working from the outside edge of the spill inwards to prevent it from spreading. As the cloth lifts the polish, switch to a clean section to avoid reapplying the stain.
Once the nail polish is gone, you'll want to clean the area to remove any leftover solvent. Mix a little bit of mild dish soap or upholstery cleaner with some water. Using a new clean cloth, blot the spot with this soapy solution. Afterwards, blot the area with another cloth dampened with just plain water to rinse it. Finally, pat the spot dry with a clean towel and let it air dry completely.
