To effectively remove a grease stain from a suede sofa, you should act as quickly as possible. The primary method involves using an absorbent powder to draw the oil out of the material. Cornstarch or baking soda are highly effective for this purpose.
First, gently blot any excess grease from the surface with a clean cloth or paper towel, being careful not to rub the stain further into the fabric. Next, generously sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda directly onto the affected area, ensuring the entire grease spot is covered. Allow the powder to sit on the stain for at least an hour, or even longer, to give it ample time to absorb the oil.
After the powder has had time to work, use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to carefully remove it from the sofa. If the stain is still visible, you can repeat the process of applying the powder, letting it sit, and vacuuming it off. Once the grease has been lifted, you may need to use a suede brush to gently restore the nap, which is the raised, fuzzy texture of the suede, in the cleaned area. For persistent stains, a commercial suede cleaner may be necessary, but always test it on an inconspicuous area first.
