To get your Pentair 5600SXT Series Water Softener up and running for the first time, follow these steps: First, make sure the control unit is plugged in, and the bypass valve is set to "In Service." Next, initiate a manual regeneration cycle by pressing and holding the "Extra Cycle" button for about 5 seconds. Then, move the valve to the "Backwash" setting, and monitor the drain line for a consistent flow, allowing this stage to run for approximately 10 minutes or until the water becomes clear. Following backwash, shift the valve to the "Brine/Slow Rinse" position and confirm that the unit is drawing water from the brine tank; you might need to repeat this step. After that, move the valve to "Rapid Rinse" and observe the drain line for about 5 minutes or until the water runs clear. Proceed by advancing the valve to start the brine tank fill cycle, making certain that water enters the brine tank at the proper rate. The brine valve drive cam will keep the valve in place to fill the brine tank for the initial regeneration. Finally, replace the control box cover and add salt to the brine tank, avoiding rock salt.
