Balancing the airflow on your Seed Brakes is crucial for optimal performance. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get it right:
Tools You'll Need: Gather these essential tools before you begin:
Start and Set Air Speed: Start your tractor and turn on the fan. Set the air speed to your highest RPM setting that you will use for seeding. This will help you balance the airflow across all Seed Brakes.
Measure Wind Speed: Choose a Seed Brake in the middle of your drill or in an area where the airflow is the strongest. Attach the 6-inch hose piece to the exit port of the Seed Brake and use the wind meter to measure the wind speed exiting the Seed Brake. Write down this speed; it will be your target speed for balancing the others.
Adjust Airflow: Measure the wind speed at the exit port of each Seed Brake using the 6-inch hose. If the wind speed is less than your recorded target speed, you'll need to increase it. Remove washers to increase the speed. Small shims typically increase the speed by about 1 mph, medium shims by 2 mph, and large shims by 4 mph.
Balancing Exhaust Ports: Once you have balanced all of the exhaust ports, install hoses on all of the exit ports of the Seed Brakes. Tighten every exhaust port cap and apply a small amount of silicone to the threads before tightening to prevent the caps from vibrating loose. Following these steps carefully will help to ensure your Seed Brakes are working at their best, giving you the protection you need during seeding.
