To ensure your Mircom MIX-2251AP Intelligent Photoelectric Smoke Sensor is functioning correctly, you can perform several tests as outlined in the instruction manual. First, a functional test can be conducted using a test magnet (P/N M02-04-01 or M02-09-00). Hold the magnet in the designated test area, as illustrated in Figure 3 of the manual; the sensor should trigger the alarm on your system. Second, a smoke entry test can be performed using an aerosol generator, such as the Gemini 501. Set the generator to produce 4%/ft to 5%/ft obscuration, following the Gemini 501 manual's instructions, and apply the aerosol until the panel alarms. For the MIX-2251TAP and MIX-2251TMAP models, a direct heat method can be used to test the thermistors. Use a 1000-1500 watt hair dryer, holding it about 12 inches away from either thermistor. The detector will reset after it cools down sufficiently. Always adhere to the testing procedures described in the manual. If the sensor fails any of these tests, clean it as described in the manual and retest. If the issue persists after cleaning, consider replacing the sensor.
