Well, if you're hoping to get a brand new silver dollar as change from your morning coffee, you're about a century too late. But if you're a collector, I have some fantastic news for you. The short answer is yes, they are being made again, but with a very modern twist.
The original Morgan dollars, the iconic silver cartwheels of the Old West, had their main production run from 1878 to 1904, with a final, one-year comeback tour in 1921. For the next hundred years, that was the end of the line. Any Morgan you found was a genuine piece of history.
However, the U.S. Mint loves a good revival. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the last historic issue, they struck beautiful new Morgan dollars in 2021. These were so popular with collectors that the Mint decided to make it a recurring gig. Thanks to the Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar Coin Program, new uncirculated and proof versions were authorized to return in 2023. So, yes, the presses are running again, but these new coins are strictly for collectors. They are numismatic products, not currency meant for circulation. Lady Liberty's famous profile is back in action, but this time she's purely for show.
