To remove a property lien in California, you must first pay off the debt to the lienholder and get a lien release document, or dispute the lien in court if you believe it's invalid. Once the debt is paid or the court has ordered the removal, the lienholder (or you) must record the official "Satisfaction of Judgment" or "Lien Release" form with the county recorder's office to officially remove the lien from public record.
