To work on a cargo ship, first obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), and STCW certification for international routes. Entry-level roles such as Ordinary Seaman or Wiper can then be pursued through shipping companies or crewing agencies, but only after completing mandatory safety training and successfully passing background and medical checks.
