Why does the brake feel soft after changing the brake fluid?

Because air was not completely bled during the brake fluid replacement, it needs to be replaced again and the air must be bled. Regular replacement of brake fluid: Over time, brake fluid can become contaminated with impurities and moisture, leading to deterioration. Deteriorated brake fluid is not easily detectable with the naked eye. While brake fluid that has been used for a long time may still provide braking performance, it can suddenly cause reduced braking effectiveness or complete brake failure. Brake fluid replacement interval: Braking power is the most fundamental safety guarantee. During daily braking operations, not only do the brake pads wear out, but the brake fluid also gradually deteriorates over time. To ensure optimal braking performance, it is generally recommended to replace the brake fluid every 40,000 kilometers or 3 years. If the weather is very humid, it is best to replace it every 2 years.
I just changed the brake fluid and also encountered the issue of soft brakes. This is usually caused by air bubbles entering the brake system. Since brakes operate hydraulically, there should be no air bubbles in the brake lines; otherwise, the pressure won't transfer properly when braking, resulting in a spongy feel. Possible reasons include incomplete bleeding during the fluid change or improper handling that allowed air to enter. Once, I changed the fluid myself and didn't tighten the reservoir cap properly, causing air to leak in and making the brakes soft. The solution is to visit a professional auto repair shop for a proper bleeding procedure, where the mechanic uses specialized tools to pressurize and remove all air, restoring the brake's firmness. Never attempt to fix it yourself—brakes are critical for driving safety, and failure at high speeds can be dangerous. Additionally, check the quality of the brake fluid; avoid using substandard products or mixing different brands, as incompatible fluids can cause soft brakes. For regular maintenance, changing the brake fluid every two years can prevent this issue.
