Why did the Buick LaCrosse HUD suddenly disappear?

There is an adjustment button behind the left side of the steering wheel for the HUD. Check if the angle is misaligned and adjust it up or down. It can intuitively display safety prompts such as PD pedestrian recognition/protection, LKA lane keeping, and ACC adaptive cruise control to the driver. The HUD issue is most likely caused by sensor or wiring problems.
Last time when driving a friend's LaCrosse, we encountered the issue of the HUD disappearing and spent quite some time troubleshooting. Firstly, it might be accidentally pressing the HUD switch button on the steering wheel—that tiny button is particularly hidden. Another scenario is that the system needs time to load after a vehicle restart; turning off the engine, locking the car, and waiting for about ten minutes before starting again might restore it. We found through research that if there are reflective objects blocking the windshield or if the tint film has too low light transmittance, the projection can disappear. If none of these are the issue, then it's necessary to consider loose wiring connections, especially after driving on bumpy roads where plugs can easily shift. The most troublesome scenario is a malfunction in the projection module itself, in which case it's necessary to visit a 4S店 (authorized dealership) to connect to a computer and diagnose the fault codes.
My LaCrosse had the same issue with the HUD suddenly disappearing last week. Took me a while to figure it out—there's an HUD toggle in the instrument panel brightness settings that might've been accidentally turned off by kids. If the system detects low battery voltage, it'll automatically shut down non-essential functions to conserve power. A head unit reboot works best; try holding the volume knob for 10 seconds to force restart. Windshield cleanliness is crucial too—excessive oil film can blur projections or prevent display entirely. Once it vanished on a rainy day but reappeared after sunlight evaporated the moisture next morning, likely due to humidity triggering sensor errors.
