Several automakers have integrated LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) into their production vehicles, primarily as a key sensor for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and future autonomous driving capabilities. LiDAR works by emitting laser pulses to create a high-resolution, 3D map of the car's surroundings, excelling at accurately detecting objects and their distance, especially in low-light conditions. Currently, cars equipped with LiDAR are generally in the luxury segment.

The integration of LiDAR is a significant step toward higher levels of automation. Systems like Mercedes-Benz's DRIVE PILOT and the planned system for the Volvo EX90 aim to allow the driver to take their hands off the wheel and eyes off the road under specific conditions, such as on divided highways. This is often referred to as Level 3 conditional automation.

The trend is clear: while camera and radar-based systems are standard today, LiDAR is becoming the differentiator for next-generation, high-end driving assistance. Its ability to provide precise depth information regardless of lighting makes it a critical safety redundancy. For a consumer, choosing a car with LiDAR today is an investment in a vehicle's potential to receive over-the-air updates enabling more capable autonomous features in the future.

Honestly, for most people's daily drive, LiDAR is overkill right now. Tesla's proven you can do a lot with just cameras and radar. These LiDAR systems add thousands to the car's price. I'd only consider it if you do a ton of highway commuting and really value the idea of the car handling heavy traffic for you. Otherwise, you're paying for tech you might not use for years.

From my perspective, it's all about future-proofing. I want a car that gets smarter over time. Companies like Lucid and Mercedes are putting LiDAR in their flagships now so the hardware is ready for more advanced self-driving software later. It’s like buying a computer with a better graphics card—you’re paying for capability you’ll grow into. I’d look at the Genesis G90 or wait for the Volvo EX90 if that's your priority.

As someone who pays close attention to the tech, it's fascinating. LiDAR isn't about replacing cameras; it's about adding a layer of super-accurate depth perception, especially at night. It's the key sensor that could make systems like GM's Ultra Cruise or Volvo's Ride Pilot truly hands-free. The real question is whether the software will live up to the hardware's promise. I'm watching the Lucid Air and BMW iX to see how their systems develop.

My main concern is safety. I like that LiDAR gives the car a reliable way to "see" the road in 3D, even if a camera is blinded by the sun. For me, it's a worthwhile investment for the extra safety margin, especially for a family car. The upcoming Volvo EX90 is high on my list specifically because they're touting LiDAR as a core part of their safety suite. It feels like the next big step in protecting everyone inside.

What are the reasons for sudden failure to connect to car Bluetooth?

The reasons for sudden failure to connect to car Bluetooth include the mobile device being out of the communication range of the car Bluetooth, incompatibility between the mobile system and the car Bluetooth system, and unstable factors in electronic devices. The Bluetooth technology in car Bluetooth systems is derived from mobile phone Bluetooth technology and shares the same transmission system. Car Bluetooth is an in-car wireless hands-free system designed and developed based on wireless Bluetooth technology. The main function of car Bluetooth is to connect with mobile phones via Bluetooth technology for hands-free calls during normal driving, aiming to free up hands and reduce the risk of traffic accidents. Solutions for sudden failure to connect to car Bluetooth: You can reset the car system to factory settings, clear the Bluetooth list, turn off other Bluetooth devices, and then pair the car system via mobile Bluetooth by entering the pairing code. This is because some car Bluetooth devices require a matching code for pairing. If you have previously connected and changed your phone, it may cause the mobile Bluetooth system to remain matched with the previous phone. Try connecting another mobile phone to the car system. If it still fails to connect, it may be due to a malfunction in the Bluetooth module of the car system. You can visit the brand's after-sales service to check if it is functioning properly.

What is the fuel tank capacity of the Touran L in liters?

The fuel tank capacity of the Touran L is 60 liters, as officially announced. The Touran L requires 95-octane fuel, with a fuel consumption of 6.0-6.3L per 100 kilometers. A full tank can cover a distance of 952-1000km. During daily driving, it is essential to monitor the remaining fuel level in the tank. This is typically observed through the fuel gauge inside the vehicle. Under normal circumstances, the fuel level is accurately reflected on the gauge. The fuel gauge usually has 5 to 6 segments. It is advisable to refuel when only 2 segments remain to avoid running out of fuel mid-journey. During actual refueling, the amount of fuel added may exceed the calibrated capacity. This is because the manufacturer's specified tank capacity is measured from the bottom of the tank to the safe fill level, with additional space from the safe fill level to the tank opening. This extra space accommodates fuel expansion due to temperature increases, preventing overflow. If fuel is filled up to the tank opening during refueling, the actual amount added may exceed the calibrated tank capacity.

Which reference points to align when reversing into a parking space?

There are three reference points to align when reversing into a parking space: First reference point: When reversing, observe the left rearview mirror. When the lower edge aligns with the ground control line, turn the steering wheel fully to the right. Second reference point: After turning fully right, observe the right rearview mirror to maintain a 30cm distance between the vehicle body and the parking space corner. Third reference point: After the vehicle enters the space, while adjusting the distance between the vehicle body and the boundary line, observe the left rearview mirror. When the lower edge aligns with the parking line, stop the vehicle. Additional information: Reverse parking test: Reverse parking has been a mandatory test item for obtaining a small vehicle driver's license since 2013. It evaluates the driver's ability to maneuver the vehicle in a confined space. Reverse parking is an assessment point in the driver's test, requiring candidates to correctly reverse the vehicle into a garage from both sides while in motion. Evaluation criteria: Failing to follow the prescribed route or sequence results in disqualification. Having the vehicle body cross the line or failing to complete the parking maneuver results in disqualification. Exceeding the 210-second time limit for reverse parking results in disqualification. Each instance of stopping during the maneuver deducts 5 points.
