Where to Check BMW Mileage?
2 Answers
BMW's total mileage is displayed on the instrument panel. If you cannot see the total mileage, it is likely that the displayed data has been switched. The instrument panel can show various data, such as remaining range, trip mileage, average speed, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption, etc. These displayed data can be toggled between each other. On the left side of the steering wheel, at the top of the headlight control lever, there is a button. Pressing this button allows you to switch between the displayed data. Keep pressing until "total" is displayed, which indicates the total mileage. For some models, there is a button at the bottom left corner of the instrument panel. Pressing this button will display the total mileage. Some models have a small black stick on the instrument panel. In most cases, this small black stick can be rotated left or right and pressed inward. To reset the trip mileage, you generally need to press and hold the small black stick for more than three seconds. Adjusting the display of different functions on the instrument panel is usually done by rotating the small black stick left or right. Resetting the trip mileage means clearing the most recent driving distance of the vehicle; it does not reset the total mileage of the vehicle. The operation methods may vary for different models. The vehicle's user manual provides detailed explanations, so it is recommended to refer to the user manual.
When I first got my BMW, I had a bit of trouble finding the odometer, being a new driver and all. Generally speaking, it's located right in front of the steering wheel on the instrument cluster – that small digital display at the very top shows the mileage, which automatically lights up when you start the vehicle. Take my 5 Series for example, it's clearly visible on the LCD screen between the tachometer and speedometer. Older models might have a small window at the top of the traditional instrument panel. I remember during my first maintenance visit at the dealership, the technician reminded me to develop a habit of regularly recording the mileage to avoid being tricked by odometer rollbacks when buying used cars. Plus, now with BMW's ConnectedDrive APP, you can even check it remotely – super convenient! It helps me keep track of maintenance intervals like oil changes every 5,000 kilometers, making car care much more worry-free.
